Stagner for Raleigh

I wish the N&O had endorsed Randy Stagner for City Council. It would be bad to lose a good council member because of what looks like a failure to communicate.
Like the N&O, I was bothered at first by the flap involving City Manager Russell Allen and City Council parking places. I even wrote a blog then poking Stagner for his role.
Then I met him. More accurately, I was introduced to him through three Raleigh leaders I admire greatly: Rep. Grier Martin, Sen. Josh Stein and Tom Oxholm, the former school board member. When those three endorse somebody, I pay attention.
Stagner is impressive. A 28-year veteran of Army Special Operations, he struck me as tough, fearless and independent.
I wish he, his campaign or the Council had done a better job of explaining Allen’s removal. It sure looks like there was a lot more to it than parking places.
So this is my way of setting the record straight. And I’ll let Grier Martin explain why Stagner is the right choice:
“Randy is responsive to the people of Raleigh. When they were concerned about Sandy Forks Rd, he listened and got needed improvements. When the people of North Raleigh told Randy they were concerned about safety on Lead Mine Road, he listened and fought to get a traffic light at Lead Mine and Bridgeport Road. Randy has worked to improve safety on the greenway by advocating for trained volunteers to patrol the greenways. Randy has stood against developers to protect the quality of life in Raleigh’s wonderful neighborhoods.”
