A Shortage of Truth All Around

Here’s a recap of George’s race with Renee so far: Renee came out swinging saying (on Facebook) how deeply she cared for the voters in her district while George Holding had voted against farmers and highways.

George set that straight by explaining what had really happened: That what he had voted against was increasing Food Stamp spending to $750 billion (which was in the so-called ‘Farm Bill’ Renee had voted for). And that he had also voted against funding the Export Import Bank (which was in the ‘Highway Bill’ Renee had voted for) which could cost taxpayers $2 billion. And George ran a television ad and a radio ad about Renee’s attacks.

Next Renee sent out a mailing saying George opposed the U.S. Army and George ran a TV ad and radio ad setting that straight: Explaining that the bill Renee was attacking him for voting against was Obama’s Omnibus Budget Deal – which Renee had voted for.

Renee came back with a TV ad of her own on Fox News Cable TV and by sending out another mailing saying, ‘You’re in good hands with Renee.’

Meantime, the third candidate in the race hit a rough patch.

Two years ago, investors in a company Greg Brannon co-founded sued him for defrauding them. A jury decided the investors were right and ordered Brannon to repay them $250,000. And Brannon declared he’d be vindicated on appeal.

Two years later, after Brannon lost his second race for U.S. Senate, he switched and ran for Congress.

And a few days after that he lost the appeal. To make matters worse, the Charlotte Observer reported Brannon had also failed to pay the IRS $175,000 in taxes.

Next, last Tuesday night, when Brannon spoke to a Republican Club in Wake Forest he said, I will never attack Mr. Holding or Ms. Ellmers. Ever.

But he’d just launched a new website (selfservants.com) doing nothing but attacking both Ellmers and Holding.

This time he got caught misleading voters.

It’s all sort of topsy-turvy – the way Renee sees the world opposing Obama is opposing the Army and the way Greg Brannon tells it attacking his opponents isn’t an attack.
