Obama fans probably loved Obama’s half-hour show Wednesday night. McCain voters either hated it or turned it off. And undecided voters – who are usually low-information voters anyway – probably didn’t watch it.

So it may not make any difference for all the money it cost.

But I had a reaction that may be in the minority of Obama supporters: I thought the program was too downbeat, too pessimistic.

Yes, people are hurting. Obama clearly gets that better than McCain does. And Obama gave us mind-numbing detail about what he plans to do.

But his production was missing the optimistic, can-do note that voters yearn for this year, especially in the final days.

I think Obama missed a big – and expensive – opportunity.
