Another sign of the Net times: A long-time Raleigh lobbyist told me how much the brave new world of blogs has changed his world.

“I used to be afraid to look at Under the Dome every morning,” he said.  “Now I have to look at it every 15 minutes.  It’s done nothing but raise my stress level.”

Politics used to be defined by the daily news cycle: the morning paper and the 6 o’clock news.  Now it’s minute-by-minute combat.

There was a time not long ago when it looked like Dome would be obsolete.  Once published on the front page and read eagerly by everyone in the political world, it was relegated first to the State & Local front and then inside the section.  And, frankly, it got a little dull.

But Ryan Teague Beckwith, who does the Dome blog, has breathed new life into the old standby.  He updates it throughout the day.  And he’s made it must reading in Raleigh again.  Not just every day, but every hour.
