About two weeks ago one of the cable TV channels ran old Elvis movies every night which was a happy event until the night my wife walked into the room, saw Elvis singing “Return to Sender,” and asked diplomatically if, since I’d seen four Elvis movies that week, I’d like to watch the Billboard Music Awards.

I started to say, You don’t like Elvis? but for once my brain got into gear before my lips and – since my wife tends to watch award shows like the Oscars and the Emmys – I clicked the remote control and landed on the Billboard Awards;—and there in all her glory was Madonna strutting in front of a microphone, holding a golden statue, wearing a waist-length jacket with a fur collar and nothing else except black garters, black fishnet stockings and high heels.

I thought I’d landed in a different world.

The next morning when I sat down at my desk in the office there was an email attached to an article titled “Someone Stole Our Culture” – saying the thieves had not only stolen our culture but had replaced it with a new culture (called ‘diversity’) which was friendly to most anything on earth except old-fashioned religion (or, at least, the kind of old-fashioned Christianity St. Paul had in mind after his vision on the road to Damascus).

And of course, next in the article, a couple lines below the word diversity, were the words gay marriage – followed by a depiction of how back in the 1950’s on TV we had Ozzie and Harriet, and June and Ward, but now, in the new era, Ozzie-and-Harriett-as-ideal-parents has morphed into Cameron and Mitchell on Modern Family.

Tonight, after I’m done contemplating the decline of Western civilization, I’m going to go home and watch The Best Years of Our Lives.

"Someone stole our culture". I had to wait to post here after reading that because I thought I was the only person in America that truly believed that. Not sure who sent you that email, or who wrote the article, Carter, but they would be welcome at my table any time.

It's more than just about the difference between old fashion religion and today's beliefs. It has progressed. Having a child out of wedlock is not only okay...it's celebrated (and taken care of by our taxpayers as well and accepted as "justified", of course). Two men raising an adopted infant male child is not only accepted, it is lauded. People that used to be ashamed of receiving food stamps now brag about how much they get. Lying about your "status" to entitlement offices used to mean that a person received severe punishment...now it is not even checked and even if someone is found to have taken thousands of dollars illegally through fraud in the entitlement system, no punishment is enacted. It goes on and on and because of this change in culture and law enforcement, we are seeing more and more of the same. It is only a matter of time before our country transitions into a lawless, quasi-socialistic state. I won't be alive to see it, but my kids and grands will....and for that, I'm bummed. No other way to put it. I can't do anything about it and it looks like no one else can...or even wants to. Sad...sad indeed.

The same media would only show Elvis from the waist up. Western civilization is not declineing, it's dead. The Best Years of Our Lives, may be the best movie ever made, at least it's in the top 10. Casablanca has to be up there with it. I like Walter E. Williams article on diversity. Japan has the least diversity of any country in the modern world, and they rank above America in so many catagories that matter. Diversity is over rated, excellence is under rated.
