These days conservatives are reeling in the face of the sudden ascendance of gay marriage as a popular issue – they’re looking back at all the votes traditionalists (or old fogies) have won in referendums (including one in North Carolina just a year ago) and then looking at the latest polls saying there’s been a wind change and now people are all for gay marriage, and it’s like the earth suddenly shifting beneath their feet – so naturally they’re shaking their heads and wondering: What happened?

And the mavens and masters of public opinion are answering, You just lost the Culture War – it’s a startling revelation.

For thirty years Republicans have been fighting and, if not winning, at least holding their own in the Political Wars. But now, suddenly, they find the liberals (or secularists or whoever) have also been fighting (and winning) another war that has the power – at a touch – to sweep the ground out from under their political feet. It’s as if some enlightened rock star or movie celebrity suddenly has the power to stand up, say, at the Emmy Awards and reveal in a flash of insight that the faithful have been dead plumb wrong about the Sacrament of Marriage for twenty centuries – then the next day some fellow takes a poll that shows a tidal shift in public opinion overnight that leaves people (who, say, a year ago voted no to gay marriage) agreeing with the rock star and saying, Yes sir, the old fogies had it dead wrong all along.

Not that hard to explain: Lots of people know at least a few gay people and have discovered that they're not the weirdos who were parading around in bright colors in 70's style "Gay Price" parades. Combine that with the very American "live and let live" philosophy, and the result is "Why do I even care?"

The left, secular progressives have won several wars. The main war they pushed early on and the key to all wars is the control of language. Once you control the language you control the culture. Unpleasant language has been changed to words with a softer more pleasant meaning. Example: When I was young, people who were on government assistance, were on "wealfare". That term has a harsh sound and accurately states the condition of the reciever. The new term is " entitlement". This puts the reciever in a much better light. It is not accurate, but who cares, it is more accepted. This over throw of the English language is by intent. Secularism is easy, it requires no effort or boundries. Nothing is wrong except the politically in correct., That usually is an everything goes format. I have to wonder if the younger generation will one day grow up and regret something other than the ink paintings that adorn their old sagging bodies.

Two guys sat in a bar talking football. One guy got mad because his buddy called his team a bad name. One thing led to another and the offended football fan punched his buddy in the nose. The police were called and the offender was charged with assualt. The penalty was to pay the doctor office visit and cost of court. The next week the same two guys were in the same bar. In walks a gay member of the bar. He too gets in an argument with the man who the week before punched a man in the nose. Same thing happens, the man punches the gay male in the nose. The police are called and the offender is charged with a hate crime. The fine is pay the doctor bill, pay cost of court and serve 6 months in jail. Conclusion: Certain members of society have more valuable noses than others, so be careful who's nose you assualt. What's this crap about equal justice under the law.
