I'm also against taxpayer dollars being paid out for "incentives" to businesses that want to relocate here in NC. We're like-minded on that. I only have to present the money lost with the Dell venture here in our fair state to show how so many times, incentives don't work out for us.
I won't argue this with you here. I am excited that we're seeing businesses coming here and hiring our people when just so many need those jobs. Our state is among the highest in unemployment in the nation. So, aside from how these new jobs were obtained, I see how maybe, possibly, I could change my opinion on incentives.
I'm kind of like your guy Obama, Gary. He was against gay marriage before he was for it. He was against gun control before he was for it. He has said publically that he has changed his mind on those issues (and others) throughout the years. But, alas, that is just fine for progressive/democrats because, I mean after all...it's Obama for crying out loud. He's "allowed", y'know? Well, I might change my mind on this.
Hopefully these new businesses coming here receiving incentives that I don't particularly agree with will be successful and those that do get jobs with them are able to keep their jobs. Hopefully our state will see an increase into the state general fund through new tax revenue that will not only offset the state's expenditures to get the businesses here but will realize far more revenue making the incentives prudent from an ROI (Return On Investment) standpoint.
I'm betting that we'll NEVER see the Billions lost that our taxpayers have lost on the massive give-aways to companies like Solyndra and other weak "alternative energy" businesses our federal government spent all those taxpayer bucks on...only to see that money fly away in the wind.
Crossing my fingers these companies will be successful and I would hope that the progressive democrats that were in favor of incentives when democrats gave them out will work with republicans and the companies to make them successful as well.
