Of all the ridiculous political-spin phrases ever, this one is up there with John Kerry’s “I voted for it before I voted against it.”

It came Sunday from senior Mitt Romney campaign adviser Ed Gillespie.  He was trying to spin his way through CNN’s “State of the Union.” Specifically, he was insisting that Romney has been totally honest about when he left Bain Capital.

Gillespie said Romney initially thought he would be leaving Bain on a temporary basis, but the challenges of the 2000 Olympics led him to “retire retroactively.”

As one wag observed: “I have often wished I could ‘un-fuck up’ retroactively, but I didn’t know it was an option.”

Romney's only mistake so far is to hire idiots like that to represent him before the media. At least it's only his minions that are saying stupid things, and not the candidate himself. Unlike Barack "you businessmen owe your success to Mother Government" Obama.
