Congress is on the verge of cutting defense spending $600 billion.

And one way or another just about everybody in Washington is looking for ways to cut, cut, cut.

Except one fellow.

Barack Obama’s opening a new military base to defend…

…in Australia.

I'm kinda on board with this Carter, actually. I'm a "hawk republican" and believe we can't just NOT keep our presence in stragetic places around the world. I will say this....if I was a marine, I'd be putting in my BOC (Base of Choice) preference right away for Australia. What a wonderful place to put in your time in service. I took my 7-day R&R from Vietnam in Australia and let me tell ya...this is one fabulous location. To be stationed there would top Hawaii in spades. That would be especially true if you're a single guy, if you know what I mean.

I don't think we can just give up our strategic military presence around the world in the face of the budget crunch crisis. Our country still has to maintain its national security priorities. It's just as simple as that.
