Before Iraq, there was Vietnam.

Before America got bogged down in a war in the Middle East, we got bogged down in a war in Asia.

Before America had a President trying to prove he is tougher than his father, we had a President trying to prove he was tougher than his predecessor.

Before America had a know-it-all Secretary of Defense determined to remake the military his way, we had a know-it-all Secretary of Defense determined to remake the military his way.

After Vietnam, the President went back to Texas in disgrace to lick his wounds.

After Vietnam, the Secretary of Defense spent decades wracked by guilt.

After Vietnam, America went through shell-shock for decades.

After Iraq, what?

After the Revolutionary War, there were the Tories.

After the Civil War, there were the Copperheads (if you don't know, look them up).

After WWII, there were those who had been Nazi sympathizers.

Seems like no American would want to go down on the wrong side of history like that. But hey, it's a free country.

The reason we are in a second Iraq war is because we were dumb enough to not force Saddam to surender live on CNN and Al Jezerra.

Afterwards he played it off as I tricked them into leaving and I don't care about them. The Americans are fools.

You must understand that culture and its bloody politics. Saddam came to power in a meeting where he spoke to the Iraqi congress and had his oppents stood and marched into a back room where they were shot.

You must use the same system to relieve him of command. I know that goes against our law and culture, but it has to be done.

Otherwise the Democrats get in power and then Saddam promises to rebuild Iraq and gets his old job back. Remember that Hilter was once thrown into prison and became Chancelor when he came out. MORE POWERFUL than ever.

You want to talk about repeats and mistakes. Chew on that one!
