It’s hard to imagine a better week – at least in North Carolina – for Republicans.

The grand jury’s investigating Governor Easley about the Southport Marina.

And Professor Mrs. Easley’s job at NCSU.

And Easley’s real estate deal at the beach.

And Easley’s free travel.

And free vacations.

Easley Contributors are testifying, Chancellors are testifying, Provosts are testifying.

The Democrats in the House raised taxes $700 million.

The Governor doubled that.

Between moans that there was no way to balance the budget, the Democrats voted to spend $25 million on a deluxe country club fishing pier at Nag’s Head – and the Governor actually went down there and had her picture taken at the ground breaking.

The Democrats – who have reformed State Government Ethics about once a year each year saying they mean to clean up corruption – are holding a fundraiser right in the middle of the House-Senate Budget negotiations to shake down special interests (and anybody who wants a dollar from the state).

Governor Perdue’s popularity has plummeted to 30% (remember when that happened to Bush) and the Democratic pollsters say it’s because she’s been mean to teachers and state employees (while if every teacher and state employee despised Perdue it wouldn’t account for a 5% drop).

A couple of months ago when Democrats were on top of the world Gary told me, Don’t worry, we’ll find a way to blow it.

He was a prophet.

The real question, though, is if the NCGOP can get itself past its current division and come together in a unified effort to capitalize on this huge gift the democratic party in NC is handing us.

If the currrent chatter on TAP is any indication....I don't think so.

Gary, Carter and Dap are correct. The question is where do we go now? Both parties are catering to their particular lunatic fringe and or go along followers. The fringe has slowly but surely put the radicals into positions of power. (Obama isn't Clinton and W. wasn't Reagan or his father) so what do we do?
