The 3rd district GOP Congressional primary is not getting a lot of attention. A Washington beltway insider who has never previously lived in the district, Taylor Griffin. has parachuted in to challenge Walter Jones. A political consultant, Griffin knows all the right things to say to conservatives, whether he means them or not.

Here is a recent article showing how the beltway establishment Republicans are bankrolling Griffin in his challenge to Jones:

http://atr.rollcall.com/gop-operati...epublican/

Jones has been standing up to Boehner and his crowd when Boehner caves in on budget / spending / debt matters and also opposes Boehner's cave in on amnesty for illegal aliens. I can see why the beltway establishment would like to get rid of him, but that is exactly why the grassroots needs to fight to keep Jones. Boehner is the one we need to get rid of.

Jones is in no danger. It'll just give him an excuse to begin campaigning and raising funds for the general election.

A carpetbagger from the Washington Beltway who claims to be conservative, but seems to have lots of liberal friends? No thank you! When it is time to replace Jones, we need a genuine North Carolinian from the district, not this phony.

There are some good radio ads up for Walter Jones, paid for by Americans for Prosperity, a conservative grassroots group.

There are issues I disagree with Walter Jones on, but one has to look at the very key issues. He has gone to the mat for the taxpayers stronger than any Congressman in our delegation against wasteful spending and borrowing, and gotten himself on Boehner's enemies list as a result. He puts the taxpayers back home ahead of the Washington establishment, and that is likely why the Washington establishment sent their boy Taylor Griffin to move into the district to challenge him. Also, he gets the highest marks on fighting amnesty for illegal immigrants in our delegation from Numbers USA, the main anti-amnesty organization. That also puts him in the establishment's crosshairs.

We need to vote to keep our House seats out of Boehner's pocket. Handing this one over to the establishment's Taylor Griffin would be a serious mistake. The incumbents we need to defeat are Boehner's bootlickers like Renee Ellmers and Richard Hudson. Unfortunately Hudson has no primary, but Ellmers does.

Walter Jones is certainly the better choice in this race.

We don't need a carpetbagger sent down by the Washington beltway establishment.

It looks like the Wall Street crowd is now engaged against Jones:

However, Jones now has an ad out with Mrs. Jesse Helms praising him for being an upstanding conservative and tough budget cutter.  When it comes to cred with the voters, I suspect that Mrs. Helms has a lot more of that than some anonymous announcer from an unknown PAC.

Walter Jones is not under the thumb of establishment boss Boehner and the Washington insiders. Boehner and his friends want to push him out. This is particularly true on spending and borrowing legislation, where Jones has always been to the right of Boehner and refused to take orders from him. Jones stands up for his constituents against the Washington insiders.

Taylor Griffin has been a Washington insider himself, and is the instrument of Boehner to try to push Jones out. That is not in the interest of North Carolinians. Griffin never even lived in the district until he moved there last year to challenge Jones.

Jones won, despite having $1.4 million in establishment out of state money thrown against him in independent advertising. It was 51% to 45%.

I wonder how long it will take Griffin to move out of that furnished condo he has been renting in New Bern in order to appear to be a district resident? Since he was named by Politico magazine as one of the top fifty party animals on the DC cocktail circuit, I bet he has been finding New Bern a bit dull. I suspect he may also miss that Ferrari he left behind in DC.
