I for one cringe in fear, when I hear anythng about NC transportation and infracture.
I live in a rural area and for all you city dwellers to have a nice rail system, the state is going to force my local goverment into bankrucpty, and raise fees, add aditional fees and up the cost of driving above what an unemployed worker or cash strapped worker can afford, before the add the miliage tax.
take a look at the last 2 budgets, where RR got a ton of money for "imprivements" but still got the $15 million diesel gas tax exeption.
Never mind that the tax payers of the state are paying for these improvements so the state can buy them and then sell them. How about all the priviate funding RR crossings gates and RR crossing road access closing. high speed freight trains, also linked to bridge construction over RR with no roads yet.
All part on the Federal 21st Century Transportation and Infracture Plan linked to PPP"s and One NC. You city dwellers have to have light rail because you wont be able to afford to commute by car, what with tolls, peak point pricing, and all the cost we rural drivers will be paying. did I mention the "pay go" plan is increased federal and state gas taxes.
The plan said that "independent truckers would be put out of business". meaning but hey you know the cost of progress.
And the best part, accourding to the US chamber of Commerce , "Due to the housing crisis, the immigrant work force will be transfered to transportation and infracture projects". Sort of fits right in with that NCDOT plan of a''seasonal temporary workforce"
But you do get some good news in this plan a four day work and school week.
That fell under" energy savings"
As they say 'THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS"
