Quite correct.  Hayes ACU rating was considerably to the left of, say, Jim Martin's when he was a Congresman
 

Well sitting in office does tend to change the voting tendencies of any and everyone and since I wasn't following Hayes that closely during his time as a congressman I will bow to your knowledge on that point.  However when Hayes defeated Vinroot for the nomination he had positioned himself as the far right (moral majority, social conservative) candidate with Vinroot taking the moderate (business friendly, chamber of commerce) role.
