My first guess about Michael Jackson was that he died accidentally as a result of his many pastic surgeries... turns out it was medical malpractice, so I was kinda close on that.

My assumption with Palin, is that there's some other family "thing" waiting in the wings to be aired, and she's just had enough of it all, is tired of the negative publicity, can sense she's not getting much useful done as governor. (Kind of the opposite of Sanford, who is refusing to go away.)

So I am less inclined to think it has to do with preparing for a 2012 run or a TV show.

Yeah, I think there's some kind of family issue going on.  It might be that she's just sick and tired of her family being the "pissing post" for the left-talk press and for the late night TV shows and such.  But, something inside me says there's more to this than meets the eye.

She's all about family (and yeah, her family has had incidents of not showing "family values"....let's not go there, y'all).  I admire her a great deal but to be honest, she'd have little-to-no chance in any kind of national campaign now due to the negative press she's had to endure...just my opinion.
