It seems to depend on which jersey Shumaker has on. If he has on his blue jersey, playing on Jim Black's team, then he scores a touchdown.
Too often if he is wearing his red jersey, he fumbles the ball.
Funny thing about that!
Fumble? I'd say it was more of a handoff to the other team ;-).

Who is Beason?
Beason was a big time lobbyist, a registered Republican and former second tier official in the Martin administration, who saw being the Democrats best friend as being the ticket to success as a lobbyist. He had to get out of the lobbying business when it came out during the Jim Black scandals that he had made a huge no-interest personal loan to Black while Black was Speaker and he was a lobbyist.
The connection to Shumaker that is most galling to Republicans is when the two of them threatened Republican leaders that if they used the Jim Black scandal against Democrats in the 2006 elections, campaign contributions to Republican legislative incumbents from several major PAC's would be cut off. Weakling GOP state chairman Ferrell Blount caved in to that intimidation.

And this was because Ed McMahan (former NC House Rep & NCGOP National Committeman) made a deal with Speaker Jim Black for Co-Speaker or Pro Tem, (depending on the election outcome) and sold out the GOP.
Why? Because he had brokered a deal with Black to run Dem Ken Fortenberry (Editor, Norman News) against Repub Joe Kiser (then GOP House Minority Leader). If they could be rid of Joe then McMahan and Black could share the power. And again, no matter the election results this would work quite nicely for both of them.
This deal was accomodated by Beason and Shumaker; RINO's were willing to live with it and the others just didn't wish to not be reelected or just didn't understand it all.

I cannot stand RINOs, but I have to disagree with the above recap of RINO history.
Ed McMahan was one of several leaders, AGAINST Richard Morgan and his RINO Coalition with Speaker Jim Black.
Joe Kiser, was a major supporter of the Richard Morgan & Jim Black Coalition for 2003-2004. Kiser ran for Republican House Caucus Leader for the 2003-2004 Session, promising to support Leo Daughtry as the Republican Caucus nominee for Speaker. But he lied, and threw his support fully behind RINO Richard Morgan’s coalition with Democratic Speaker Jim Black. Kiser, as the Republican House Caucus leader, would never call a Republican House Caucus during that period of time, for fear that the Republican House members might voice opposition to the Richard Morgan-JIm Black Co-Speakership. Look at Kiser's voting record. He voted with Jim Black and Richard Morgan to gerrymander Republicans into the minority, for the billion dollar tax increase, and on numerous other bills.
It is true Jim Black and Ed McMahan both represented Mecklenburg County, and had common friends and supporters. Ed McMahan probably could have cut his own deal with Jim Black for the 2003-2004 Session. But the fact, and public record, is that McMahan consistently supported and voted for the Republican Caucus nominee, first Leo Daughtry, and then George Holmes. And the fact is that McMahan did the Republican Party a good favor by opposing both Richard Morgan, and opposing Morgan’s RINO Lieutenant, Joe Kiser.
As to the Fortenberry story, the source is Fortenberry himself, who was a liberal Democrat, disliked Kiser based on local politics, and loved to stir up things to divide the Republicans. Regardless, it would not have made much difference if Fortenberry was elected as a Democrat supporting Democrat Speaker Jim Black, rather than Kiser as a RINO who supported Democrat Speaker Jim Black.

Yes Kiser was a major RINO; and he was in McMahan's way.
Ask McMahan personally if he didn't sit down with Fortenberry and Black - I don't believe that he'll try to deny it even now Edmcmahan@littleonline.com. (I cannot confirm the offer of $37k and will not try to.) McMahan actually sent an email admitting to doing this trying to explain it to the House Caucus membership.
And I am truly sorry but to say this but Leo was on board with McMahan's deal with Black.
Recall the News 14 interview with McMahan in Charlotte in which he said 'Jim Black is a good man, a very good man and I don't believe he'll be indicted on any charges.' The clip played for 24 hours over and over again.
This clip played around May that election year and it killed GOPers from using Black and his Culture of Corruption in their campaigns.
Remember how NCGOP tried to suppress Sen Andrew Brock's video tape on Jim Black? If you ask why they didn't go after Black they'll say they did - they bought 2k yard signs against Black - for the entire state. Right.

This person is right. Smilin' Eddie abandoned the "Safaris" when many of them were removed thanks to the Morgan/Black redistricting plan and other really dirty stunts. And since everyone knew that Leo couldn't make it McMahan made the best deal he could - mostly for himself - RINOs reluctantly in support (Gillespie helped). The deal with Fortenberry was very real - and the nature of his character made him the perfect candidate for just such a deal.

Thanks for the link.
And things did run smoother for Black and his Culture of Corruption. Remember the $15M 'slush funds' that Duke of Dare Basnight, Dem Crook Black and Morgan split evenly? Dollars for Votes.
Also, does anyone recall how Morgan's 527 (Mainstreet Republicans) received $100K from S&M Tobacco? Pretty sure the Feds were interested in this one but Morgan was just a Dem dupe and likely wasn't worth the effort.
